CLARIFYING VALUES,
PURPOSE, AND GOALS
TRAINING

“High-performing CEOs make decisions earlier, faster, and with conviction” (“What Sets Successful CEOs Apart”, Harvard Business Review, June 2017). Yet, despite being essential for decision making and sense of direction, clarification of values is mostly overlooked and neglected. But whether you know it or not, your values have a central role in your life. Determining what they are will provide the core prerequisite for balanced life: clarity!
Otherwise, it leads to inconsistency in attainment or discontent in achievement of (many inauthentic) goals – and confusion! Hence:
Values clarification precedes vision, mission, purpose, goals, and action plans – on both corporate and individual level!
Sort Out Your ‘Why’ and ‘What’, and Implement Your ‘How’
Values are determined with Socratic, thought-provoking questions:
- What have you dreamed of doing for a long time? Why haven’t you done it?
- Where do you want to go from here?
This process is based on three core aspects:
- Focus on what is important to you;
- Considering consequences and alternatives;
- Doing rather than talking.
It provides the discrepancies between your values and behavior – the first step toward acting more consistent with what is the most important to you.
